Drone Hits Area Near UAE Nuclear Facility

(MENAFN) The United Arab Emirates announced that an unidentified drone struck part of the area surrounding the country’s only nuclear power facility on Sunday as regional tensions continue to rise across the Middle East.

According to Emirati defense officials, three drones entered UAE territory “from the western border region.” Authorities said air defenses intercepted two of the UAVs, while the third hit an electrical generator located “outside the inner perimeter” of the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant in the Al Dhafra area. Officials confirmed there were no casualties and no signs of radioactive leakage.

Although the UAE did not directly blame Iran for the incident, the Foreign Ministry denounced what it described as an “unprovoked terrorist attack,” warning that the incident endangered national security and could worsen instability in the region.

On the same day, Saudi authorities reported intercepting three drones after they crossed into the kingdom’s airspace from Iraq.

Tensions across the region remain elevated as indirect negotiations between Washington and Tehran continue to face obstacles, with both parties accusing the other of making unacceptable demands. Reports in recent weeks have also suggested that US President Donald Trump may be weighing the possibility of ending the fragile ceasefire announced last month and restarting airstrikes.

Tehran has repeatedly accused Gulf nations hosting American military facilities of assisting operations carried out during the US and Israeli military campaign launched against Iran on February 28.

“The truth is that the UAE was directly involved in the aggression against my country. When the attacks started, they didn’t even issue a condemnation,” Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi told journalists last week during a BRICS gathering in New Delhi.

Separately, reports last week claimed that the UAE had secretly carried out strikes targeting Iran during the confrontation.
